Forty days and forty nights, they said,
the relentless dull sky
hung heavy over me.
Days stretched into months, years
and my umbrellas
were all threadbare.
Useless against the deluge.
Forty days, then forty nights, then a while longer.
Then you,
You were the sunlight
which stopped the rain.

Me too. Why use 1000 words when you can use 10? And you’ve definitely got a gift with words.

Aw, thank you. 10 words are much easier to control than 1000.

many of the poems I have read today are about the rain (and it’s pouring here) this one has a ray of hope in it…I like it and feel I have commented on it before…?

I wrote it today, unless somebody had the same idea as me! It’s pouring here too, cold and grey and very windy, so I didn’t want to write about what’s outside the window; too depressing.

Sweet poem. I read once that in the bible when they say 40 days and nights, it’s a metaphor for “a long time.’ I like that.

I like it too, it’s a good metaphor. Thanks for reading!

Thanks! I can’t claim credit for the picture, but it did take me a while to find the right one to fit.
